Sam rang at 2.14am with water coming through the landing light. Joe talked him through the stop tap under the kitchen sink while they were still on the phone, then had him switch the lights off at the fuse board. Priya was there 26 minutes later: a cold pipe in the loft had split in the frost. She cut out the split section by torchlight, capped it and had the downstairs water back on by 2.55am, then came back at nine to fit a new section and lag every pipe in the loft. The landing ceiling dried out without coming down.
