- Turn off the water at your stop tap. It's usually under the kitchen sink. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
- If water is near sockets, lights or the fuse board, switch the electricity off at the fuse board, but only if the board itself is dry.
- Turn off the boiler or immersion heater, then open the cold taps to drain what's left in the pipes.
- Catch what you can with towels and buckets, and move anything valuable out of the way.
If you can't find the stop tap, or it won't turn, call now. We'll talk you through it while we're on the way.
What it costs
- Daytime£100 to £165
- Evenings and weekends£140 to £220
- Overnight and bank holidays£180 to £275

A leak or a drip Under a sink, from a radiator, or a damp patch
Can it wait?Once you've done the steps above, this can wait a few hours if you'd rather. A daytime visit costs less.
- Look for a small isolating valve on the pipe to whatever is leaking, with a slot you turn with a screwdriver. Turn it a quarter, so the slot runs across the pipe.
- If there isn't one, or the leak is from the pipe itself, turn off the water at the stop tap.
- Put a bowl or a towel under it, and take a photo of where it's coming from.
A drip you can catch can usually wait for a daytime visit, which costs less. Book one, or send us a photo.

How it goes
Stop it
We talk you through the stop tap on the phone, then make it safe when we arrive.

We trace what failed and why, so it doesn't happen again a foot further along.
Repair it
Priced on your phone, then fixed, usually on the same visit.
Questions
Will my insurance pay for a burst pipe?
Most home insurance covers the damage a burst pipe does, and many policies cover finding it. The pipe itself usually isn't covered. We give you a leak report with dated photos for your claim.
How do I stop pipes freezing?
Keep the heating on low when it's below freezing, even when you're away, lag the pipes in the loft and the garage, and know where your stop tap is.
