The brief
A multi-academy trust wanted a primary school's fluorescent lighting replaced and its emergency lighting brought up to standard, without losing a day of teaching.
What we worked around
- The whole programme had to fit inside the six-week summer holiday
- Enhanced DBS checks for every operative, and the trust's safeguarding rules
- Site shared with the trust's decorators and a roofing contractor
Our solution
We planned the six weeks around the decorators and roofers already booked for August, ran two teams corridor by corridor, and kept every operative inside the trust's safeguarding rules with enhanced DBS checks.

What we installed
- 780 LED panels with presence and daylight control
- New self-test emergency lighting on every escape route
- Fixed wire testing of the circuits we touched
- Lighting energy calculation for the trust's estates team

Programme
Six weeks inside the summer holiday, with the three-hour duration test witnessed in the final week.
The result
Finished four days early, with lighting energy down 61% and every escape route on self-test emergency lighting.
Handover
Emergency lighting completion certificates, the logbook started, an energy calculation for the estates team and the O&M manual, all in the trust's portal.
Finished with four days to spare, and the classrooms were cleaner than the decorators left them.
