The brief
A family-owned care group needed a new fire alarm and emergency lighting throughout a 48-bedroom home, with its residents staying at home.
What we worked around
- Residents at home throughout, so nobody moved out of their room for the work
- Quiet hours every afternoon, and nothing after 6pm
- Enhanced DBS checks for everyone on site, and the home's infection control rules
- The building never without detection, so the alarm was changed zone by zone
Our solution
We planned the work room by room with the home manager, fitted each bedroom while its resident was in the lounge or at lunch, and changed the alarm one zone at a time so the home was never without detection. Quiet hours were kept every afternoon.

What we installed
- A new addressable fire alarm, with detection in every bedroom
- Emergency lighting and exit signs on every escape route
- Testing and certification of the whole installation on completion

Programme
Eight weeks, a zone at a time, with the home's fire risk assessor witnessing each zone before the next began.
The result
The home was never without fire detection, no resident had to move out of their room, and the fire risk assessor signed off every zone first time.
Handover
Fire alarm and emergency lighting certificates, the zone chart, the logbooks and a short training session for the care team on the new panel.
The residents got to know them by name. That says everything about how they worked.
