The brief
A primary care landlord needed the fire alarm and lighting replaced in a Wythenshawe health centre that houses three GP practices and opens every weekday.
What we worked around
- Work only after the last clinic and at weekends, with every room clean before the morning list
- The old fire alarm kept working until the new one was proved, zone by zone
- Infection control rules in every clinical room, agreed with the practice managers
Our solution
We worked after the last clinic and at weekends, zone by zone. Each zone of the new addressable system was installed, tested and witnessed before the old one was disconnected, so the building was never without detection, and every room was cleaned to the practices' standard before the morning.

What we installed
- A new L1 addressable fire alarm across both floors
- LED lighting in the waiting areas, corridors and consulting rooms
- Self-test emergency lighting on every escape route

Programme
Ten weeks of evenings and weekends, with each zone handed over and witnessed by the landlord's fire engineer as it was finished.
The result
No clinic session was cancelled, the building was never without fire alarm cover, and the new system had no false alarms in its first six months.
Handover
Fire alarm design, installation and commissioning certificates, the zone chart, emergency lighting certificates and the logbooks, filed in the landlord's portal.
The practices only knew they'd been in because the lights were better.
