Sale · ten working days

A full rewire in a 1930s semi

How it went

A redecorated front bedroom with a bay window and a new white double socket on the pale wall.
  • 3 bedrooms
  • 10 working days
  • Family moved out for the first fix

Helen and Mark bought a 1930s semi with its original wiring: black rubber cable, a wooden fuse board under the stairs and round-pin sockets in two bedrooms. We rewired the whole house in ten working days while they stayed with family for the first week. First fix took four days, with floorboards up and every wall chased; the plasterer followed us room by room; second fix, testing and the certificate took the rest. Two extra sockets in the kitchen were added along the way, priced and signed for in their portal before we fitted them.

Before

An old fuse box with rewireable fuses on a dark wooden board under the stairs, black rubber cables and cobwebs.
The original board under the stairs

First fix

Two electricians at work on a landing mid-rewire, walls chased for new cables, furniture under dust sheets.
Floors up, walls chased

Second fix

An electrician connecting a small board set into a chased, unplastered wall.
The new board going in

We watched every stage on our phones, and the price at the end was the price we signed.
